About

Anooj Patel began his career at Hankin Patent Law, APC as a Registered Patent Agent in 2012 while still in law school, and joined the firm full-time in 2014. Anooj loves writing patent applications, and focuses on the brass tacks of what an efficient patent portfolio can do for his clients. This has led him to prosecute Patent Applications in a way that keeps his clients from spending time and money on things that don’t move the needle. Instead, Anooj gets to know his clients so that he can understand their goals and puts plans together to allow his clients to monetize their patents, rather than just getting expensive stacks of paper.

Anooj works with his clients to determine enforcement strategies that make sense based on the client’s growth strategy. Sometimes that means active litigation, and sometimes just a gentle nudge with a Cease & Desist Letter can get the job done. Whatever the situation, Anooj keeps his clients' interests as the main motivator, rather than just doing work for the sake of doing work. Even the type of patent his clients want should depend on how they plan to actually monetize the technology. The strategies used for enforcement against in-person retailers and online platforms can be extremely different, and some options can cause enforcement to be complex, expensive, and time-consuming, while the right strategy can make the process relatively quick and pain-free.

Anooj got his start in biochemistry-based research, with a focus on Crystallography and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance technologies. He previously worked as a Biochemistry Researcher for several years at a National Institute of Sciences Laboratory at UCLA and, in that capacity, he designed protocols and prepared samples for researching Telomerase Holoenzyme. But that doesn’t mean that he only does biotech work. Instead, what drew Anooj to Patent Law instead of the research track he was on is that through his work, he is able to keep learning about all different kinds of technologies, without having to spend years doing the actual lab work. His clients do the real work, and it’s Anooj’s passion to see them succeed.

When he is not protecting our clients, Anooj enjoys spending time watching the world through the eyes of his young children and instilling in them the strong desire to learn and overcome obstacles.
